The first thing Chris and I said to each other when we arrived, "This totally reminds me of Seaside!"...and that's not by accident: <a href="http://www.houseofturquoise.com/2013/12/turquoise-houses-of-seaside-florida.html" target="_blank">Seaside, Florida</a> (where we went last fall) was actually the inspiration for this new coastal community located on a bluff overlooking the ocean about 2.5 hours from Seattle. Both Seabrook and Seaside are considered "new urbanist towns" with their walkable, pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods, small lot sizes, access to green space, and sense of community....not to mention cuteness-overload with every single home you see! I got more of a Nantucket vibe in Seabrook, which I'm all for and loved! <br /><br />Seabrook is a relatively new town, it was only established in 2004, and new construction is still going strong. The town has <a href="http://www.seabrookwa.com/seabrook-town-master-plan/" target="_blank">big plans</a> for its future, with more homes and retail in the works. I can't wait to go back to see how their vision develops and the region around Seabrook changes. Until then it's still a great place to relax and get away from it all! About half of the 250 homes in the town are available to <a href="http://www.seabrookcottagerentals.com/" target="_blank">rent</a> (though privately owned) and they are all SO cute...it was hard deciding which one to stay in. That's what happened when we got to our condo <a href="http://www.sandpipervacationrentals.com/Unit/Details/66341" target="_blank">"A Sight to Sea"</a> in <a href="http://www.seasidefl.com/" target="_blank">Seaside, Florida</a>! I found it on <a href="http://www.vrbo.com/433475" target="_blank">VRBO</a> and had seen photos and reviews, but was still blown away. It was absolutely adorable, so bright and cheery....and <i>huge</i>!! These photos really don't do the size justice. It was two floors, the master bedroom with huge vaulted ceilings, views of the ocean, a private breezeway that led to a second bedroom...with an outdoor jacuzzi! And there was a washer and dryer! (Super awesome when traveling with a 3 month-old!) We also loved the bathroom–hello steam shower! Then there was a full kitchen, totally stocked with everything we needed, another half bath, and a beautiful balcony overlooking Seaside's famous Central Square. And talk about the perfect location...right across from the beach, right next door and above restaurants and shops. It really was the perfect home away from home for our little family! And since we went during off-season, we got a great deal too! (How could I resist a community named <i>WaterColor</i>?!) You know how in some neighborhoods you have a favorite house, that one dream home you love to drive by? Yeah...that was like every single home in WaterColor. Seriously amazing homes! And all with tons of Southern/Lowcountry character with their big, inviting front porches! It wasn't just the houses either, there were a lot of really pretty green areas too (almost half of WaterColor's 499 acres is set aside for open space and preservation). And as you can see, the houses all seem to be perfectly nestled into the native landscape!
